A large System Integrator (SI) was in need of guidance on conducting a proper workflow for the Risk Management Framework (RMF) services they were providing for their government customer.
The SI was concerned about cost and schedule since their team was finding that RMF packages were being consistently returned due to errors and improper understanding of the RMF process. As a result, they found themselves regularly needing to resubmit packages, resulting in duplicated effort and a negative impact to their CPARS performance.
Over a period of 12 months, Sentek Global’s subject matter experts (SMEs) worked closely with the SI’s team to provide policy guidance and validation support on five RMF packages.
Our SMEs walked the SI team through the processes involved in each RMF step, ensuring that the latest policy updates were addressed and providing expertise on how to validate and document security controls. Our SMEs also worked with the team to streamline processes and remove barriers by leveraging our deep relationships with the Navy Security Control Assessor (SCA) and Navy Authorizing Official (NAO).
After our SMEs worked with the SI’s team, four RMF Authority to Operate (ATOs) were reached before their expiration date. This resulted in a 400% increase in the number of successful ATOs that had been achieved in the two years prior to our involvement. These ATOs were achieved in 4 to 6 months, 18-20 months faster than the Navy average. The SI stated that by adding the Sentek Global team a major risk to current and future contract performance was completely mitigated.
